The first awards ceremony took place on May 16, 1929, in the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, honoring film achievements in the years 1927 to 1928. The 88 ceremony took place on February 28, 2016 in Dolby Theatre and was hosted by actor and comedian Chris Rock.
